August is National Breastfeeding Month!

Let’s talk about the Ta-ta’s! Really, I won’t even apologize for what we are about to talk about because August is National Breastfeeding Month! At the ripe age of 29, it’s no secret that all my girlfriends are starting to have babies. Lots and lots of babies. And more babies.

I give props to the moms who have chosen to breastfeed because I can only imagine what a tiring task it may be. If there is any debate in your mind about breastmilk vs. formula and it’s your choice, educate yourself for reasons to choose breastfeeding.

Here are 3 no -brainer benefits to breastfeeding if all goes as planned.

1. Baby is fueled with the best of the best!

Colostrum is the first nutrients a child receives from the breast milk. It is full of antibodies which lessens the chance of your child getting sick. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages exclusive breast feeding for the first 6 months of an infant’s life and at least until 12 months, supplementing with food. Breastmilk fed babies typically have a decreased chance for ear infections, respiratory illnesses, SIDS, obesity and hypertension. Breast is best to strengthen the baby’s immune system.

2. Mama loses weight!

This one should make you ladies happy. Breast feeding aids in weight loss after delivery and reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Win-win!

3. Breast feeding saves money!

Breast feeding is much cheaper than purchasing formula. I am always ballin’ on a budget so free food for the baby is another win-win! Also, since your baby won’t be as sick because it’s received awesome nutrition, you will cut costs on medical co-pays and medications. Also, a healthier baby means less time away from work.
